Forbes has published the list of the 20 best-paying jobs for women in 2013 in the US. Number one on the list is pharmacist, one of the few jobs, where women earn 100% as much as their male colleagues and where they represent 52% of all pharmacists. Nine out of the twenty jobs were in health care, a sector that is dominated by women and is the fastest growing sector of the US economy.
In second position of the list is chief executive, but here, the salary gap is 76%, not taking into account that the percentage of women in chief executive positions is very low. Also, women that wish to make a career, tend to go to smaller businesses or non-profit organisations, which has an impact on their income.
In general and across the US economy, the gender gap with regard to earnings, has gone back to the level of 2005, which means that on average women earn 19% less than their male counterparts. In addition, the hourly pay of young, female college graduates has dropped by 8.5% between 2000 and 2011, compared to 1.6% for male college graduates.
