Every year, Forbes magazine establishes the list of most powerful people in the world including a separate list of the most powerful women. The criteria of selection are: money, media presence, spheres of influence and impact.
As every year, the list is headed by Germany’s Angela Merkel, followed by Janet Yellen, who is the first woman to head the US Federal Reserve and in third place Melinda Gates, who has in 2012 alone given US$3.4 billion and committed more than US$ 26 billion since founding the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 1998.
This should not deviate the attention from the fact that still less than 5% of the top companies have female CEOs and slightly more than 10% of the 1,645 billionaires are women and that there are still only 14 female heads of state worldwide.
