As every year, Forbes Magazine has published the ranking of the most powerful people in the world. Out of these 72 people, there are nine women, which represents 12%.
Even though this might not be a very encouraging figure, taking into account that 50% of the world population is female, there is quite a progress to be noted from previous years. 2009, the first year of the list, counted three women amongst the most powerful people, 2010 spiked with five to then stabilise at six for 2011 and 2012.
Again, as in previous years, Angela Merkel is considered the most powerful woman in the world, ranking at position 5 in the overall list.
